Ocular pneumoplethysmography and ophthalmodynamometry measure ophthalmic
arterial system pressures to assess noninvasively the hemodynamics of the
carotid system. A previously unreported circumstance in which these tests
complement one another is central retinal artery occlusion. Typically, the
ipsilateral retinal artery pressure, measured by ophthalmodynamometry, is
greatly decreased or is zero, whereas the ophthalmic systolic pressure,
measured by ocular pneumoplethysmography, is normal.
