The section editors of Stroke have been providing yearly updates of the most important advances in their respective areas. These concise and focused updates have been well received by the readership and provide a forum for thought leaders to briefly highlight key new information in many areas of cerebrovascular disorders. With this current version of the yearly summary of relevant advances, most of the section editors continue this tradition. I thank the section editors for their insightful comments and hope the readers of Stroke will find them useful. For further elucidation, interested readers might want to read in detail the relevant references provided in each of the updates. For future yearly updates, suggestions of areas not covered by the section editor updates are welcome and should be brought to my attention.
