The number of aged Italians continues to grow, as does stroke prevalence among them. Every year, 153 000 new cases occur among the elderly Italian population, and the numbers will continue to rise unless more is done.1 Italian physicians need the best information to combat this growing problem.

We are delighted to announce the first issue of Stroke in Italian, edited by Danilo Toni from the Department of Neurological Sciences of the University La Sapienza in Rome. He has been a leader in several multicenter trials in acute stroke treatment and prevention and is the director of the Emergency Department Stroke Unit of his university. Editor designate Toni is one of the leading stroke neurologists in Europe and a rising international figure.

We introduced Stroke in Spanish in 2002, Stroke in Russian in 2004, and we expect to have Stroke editions in Japanese and Chinese in the near future.

Stroke aspires to reach all those caring for stroke patients. Stroke in Italian will go a long way in providing timely knowledge to Italian physicians working in a country where rising stroke rates create a growing need.
