In this edition of Stroke, Fiorella and Woo1 provide a comprehensive overview of current treatment approaches to patients with symptomatic intracranial stenosis. This review represents the first of a new series of topical review articles that will appear regularly in Stroke.
For the past several years, the Emerging Therapies section has solicited such reviews of important subjects pertinent to that area within the universe of topics covered by this journal. The reviews have been well received by the readership and led to the suggestion that the number of invited reviews be increased. Each of the Stroke Section Editors were solicited to suggest 2 to 3 topics and appropriate authors pertinent to their section. In addition, the Basic Science Editors were asked to provide suggestions of more basic topics that would also be amenable to the concept of translation from the bench to the bedside.
The invited reviews when received are then sent for peer review, and final acceptance is only accomplished after this process is favorably completed. The initial invitations and reviews were generated, and the contribution provided by Fiorella and Woo represents the first of this new endeavor that we anticipate will be of substantial value to readers who wish to have access to timely, comprehensive, and thought provoking articles related to the expanding gamut of cerebrovascular disease topics.
As the pipeline for these topical reviews develops, they will become a regular feature in Stroke, and we anticipate that each issue will contain approximately 2 such contributions. We look forward to feedback from the readership concerning these reviews and also suggestions of topics and potential authors that may be worthwhile for consideration. Such suggestions can be forwarded to me or the relevant Section Editor and will be given careful consideration.
