In this issue of Stroke, the articles by Broderick et al1 and Sandvei et al2 represent the culmination of a new initiative between the Journal and the International Stroke Conference (ISC), recently held in San Diego, California. Ten of the top-scoring abstracts submitted to the meeting were identified with the help of Dr Philip Gorelick. The presenting authors were contacted and offered the opportunity to submit a full manuscript to Stroke for expedited review and publication. Three of the authors submitted manuscripts, and 2 were accepted after rapid peer review and author responses to the initial reviews. The papers and authors were acknowledged at a symposium sponsored by Stroke at the ISC meeting. The goal of this initiative is to offer authors of important and novel material the opportunity to have their contributions published rapidly by Stroke. The initiative will be continued next year, and we hope that more of the invited authors will afford themselves of the opportunity to contribute their work for rapid publication in Stroke and acknowledgement at the ISC meeting.
