We thank Dr Tian and Lou1 for their comments. They pointed out that absence of fluid-attenuated inversion recovery vascular hyperintensity (FVH) might represent either a sufficient or a poor perfusion status, and a prognostic role of FVH in patients with cortical borderzone (CBZ) infarcts is uncertain. They described 2 points for that opinion. First, absence of FVH is more likely a sign of poor collateral flow rather than a good rapid flow in patients with middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion. Second, our article did not describe a portion of patients with variable sites or severity of stenosis.
