Dr Ntaios et al1 performed an important meta-analysis and concluded that patent foramen ovale closure would reduce recurrent ischemic stroke in patients with cryptogenic stroke/transient ischemic attack when compared with best medical treatment. The analysis also found that new-onset atrial fibrillation, associated with the closure procedure, was mostly transient.
